Jun. 4th, 2003 03:57 pmokay so like a few months ago this group within the cambridge women's center, which works on childhood abuse issues, put out their newsletter on the topic of sex. and the opening editorial had something really fucked up about penises & (thus) "male" bodies in relation to lesbian sex, & i got upset & wrote a letter about how that's an inaccurate correlation & how some women have penises (i was trying to use their language) & i used suzanne pharr quotes (for old-school cred) & everything. i talked about the new transwomen-inclusive policy at the women's center & how language is a crucial part of that.
so today i get this letter in the mail:
"thank you for your thought-provoking letter regarding our winter issue, 'speaking of sex.' your letter clearly explains how our language was not trans-inclusive. we strive to write our editorials to represent as many diverse perspectives as possible. we apologize that this editorial was not inclusive of the experiences of transwomen survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
we found that your letter was very helpful in correcting this & would like your permission to publish it in our summer issue."
ROCK.
