yesterday nims came back up with me & we took the bus to the woodland mall. they have a big target there & a photobooth -- black & white for one dollar. suckers.

today i bought a stack of theory books for one of my courses, & picked up half the texts for the class i'm TAing. i finally changed my name & address at the registrar. before i moved i sent them my name change info through the mail once & faxed twice, & still they never seemed to receive it. ah, university bureaucracy. tomorrow i want to shop around for a bike, pick up some stuff for my TA training, get my student i.d. card & do laundry.

my media mail boxes just arrived. i'm glad nothing got lost. the rest of my items, including my bed, are not being delivered until tomorrow morning. fuck that shit. for the record, that is two weeks since i shipped them. i was initially told they would arrive by tuesday at the latest. i need to grit my teeth & call them & complain. it's a sad day when 8 heavy boxes shipped by media mail arrive earlier than items shipped via professional movers. i have big bruises on both hips from sleeping on the floor all week.

west coast is weird stuff. jay & amy were telling us about "casual carpool" where complete strangers line up outside of bart stations & get in cars with people they don't know, so they can use the carpool lane & not pay tolls. that would never happen on the east coast. last night when we got off the bus at my building, some dude goes "hey do you live here? me too!" all friendly-like. i had to consciously curb my distrustfulness enough to shake his hand & say "cool." as we parted ways, i whispered to nimmy, "what the fuck? i totally just blew that guy off. why am i so suspicious of people?"

she said, "yeah. we totally got east coast on his ass."
