fashion + food.

i got two new pairs of jeans today from marissa. (best care package EVER!) one pair has pseudo-patches on the knees. they fit perfectly. the length is just right; i am wearing them right now & i feel a desperate need for red converse low-tops to go with.

i just realized that one of my favorite visuals is the way uncuffed jeans fall over converse low-tops. fyi. also my style lately has consisted of short-sleeve dressy shirts, shorts that fall well below the knee, & white socks with 3 different colored stripes at the top. only a few inches of my shins show. i like it.

favorite foods lately: BABY BOK CHOY. fake grilled cheese sandwiches. grilled tempeh sandwiches. homemade miso soup. soba noodles. pistachios. almond butter (crunchy).

bedtime should have been an hour ago.

when are you coming to visit?

Okay, I haven't had a real grilled cheese sandwich in about 10 years, so maybe my mouth is amnesiac enough for fake grilled cheese. I so miss Branston's pickle under melty cheese...

What's yr brand?

tofutti makes "american cheese" in slices. i haven't had dairy cheese in several years, which may be why i think this is good. not sure. if you overcook the sandwich it gets a little too melty, as i discovered a few weeks ago.

i also tried grating a block of "cheddar cheese" by veggie kaas the other night when making enchiladas. not bad. i always swore i wouldn't try fake cheese 'cause i heard it was the grossest stuff ever.

Oooh, would you mind posting your miso soup recipe? My poor roommate has been having the worst luck with Japanese restaurants and miso soup, and I think I'd like to surprise her with some yummy homemade miso.

uh, i sort of make it up as i go along. finely chop some scallions & dice a little bit of tofu into tiny squares. i think the general rule is 2c water to 2Tbs miso (i usually use mellow brown rice miso). boil the water, add the tofu, lower the heat & add the scallions & stir in the miso until dissolved. be sure not to boil it once you've added the miso.

that's about it. i want to get some seaweed to put in it too but i haven't experimented with that yet. you could add other veggies like thinly sliced carrots, etc, if you wanted.
