on my walk to work this morning, i pass a man scraping snow off the sidewalk. "no school today?" he asks me. "no, i'm going to work," i reply. "oh," he says, surprised. "well, you look like a student, i always see you walking..." his voice trails off into embarrassment. i flash what i hope is an understanding smile & keep walking.

i wish i had witty retorts for every time this happened but i usually feel bad for them 'cause they get so embarrassed. i know that i look twelve, esp if i'm passing, but geez, it gets to me.
