hi. if someone in the boston area could give me a referral for a dentist that would be swell. i strongly suspect i need to have my wisdom teeth taken out. i'm reading up on the whole process right now & freaking out about how much damage may have already been caused (unbeknownst to me, as i wasn't having any troubles with my teeth prior to yesterday). impaction, gum disease, bone infection, etc. fuuuuuck.

marissa did you like that dentist you went to? did it take you forever to get an appt?

I had my wisdoem teeth taken out a few years ago by an oral surgeon on Montvale Avenue in Stoneham. Not sure if that is too out of the way for you or not, but I highly recommend him. I had all four teeth taken out because they were impacted sideways, and I had to go under anesthetic for it. It ended up being not painful and healed up really fast, with no swelling and no bruising.

Good luck.

ugh, wisdom teeth, the bane of late adolescence/early adulthood.

i have but one recommendation: if you can possibly afford it, get them all out at once, under general anesthesia. it's so, so much better. you get one needle in your arm, which you don't even remember, and then when you wake up it's all painkillers and tofutti smoothies.

good luck!

I'd echo the general anesthesia suggestion. I had my wisdom teeth removed in Atlanta, so I can't comment on oral surgeons locally, but general anesthesia is the way to go.

I've been going to Dana Dental Associates in Cambridge for tooth-cleanings and whatnot, and they're pretty decent. I've had fillings done there and they weren't horrible experiences. I can't say much either way about their gender clue, but i suppose these things don't matter much when you're in pain.

I was in the chair getting my teeth cleaned on the morning of September 11.

tobes, you should talk to shoshi. he just got his out last summer. he can give you the details. as for a dentist in this area, i think marissa had given me info about a local one. hopefully she'll see this. but you know me, i just leeched off dad to get my root canal. if you need a root canal (for whatever reason) let me be the first to tell you: it doesn't hurt. of course, i've been told i'm nuts but really, it didn't hurt.

the dentist i went to was really nice, the office was in harvard square and it was quiet and small. it was my first time going to a regular adult dentist (i miss the pediatric dentist office!), and i was a little nervous, but aside from the lack in variety of toothpaste flavors (just mint), it was a good experience. if you want his info, tobes, let me know & i'll email you.

i think it took about 3 weeks to get an appointment, but it was around the holidays and i didn't have a very flexible schedule to work with.
