So apparently I'm being encouraged to apply for History at UC Davis, for 20th century US cultural/gender/sexuality history. I'll be interested in your comments about Davis as a place to live; the not-in-the-city-ness of it bugs me.
i'm moving at the end of august, the quarter doesn't start till late sept. i met some of the folks in the history dept last week when i was visiting & they were really enthusiastic. sounds like there are lots of people there working on gender/sexuality histories. i think davis will be live-able for me for the first two years, but after that i'll try to move into the east bay & commute up. i can email you with more details from my visit if you want...
hey! my super cool roommate and her girlfriend are going out there too (my roommate's doing a grad degree in sustainable development at uc davis). congrats :)
my thoughts exactly. i tried to find you last night, but alas. i'll look for you this evening but if we're like ships in the night then i'll email you. if you have a cell phone, send me the # so i can call you when i arrive or something.
email me & i'll give you my last name & flight info. you could also call ericka 'cause i'll be in touch with her (& she's meeting me at the airport). you'll need my last name to find me at the hotel though, 'cause i won't know the room # till i get there.
Yeah, that'd be rad. I've not been checking mail much lately (again), but I'd definitely like to hear your take on things and how Davis compares culturally/visually to Boston/Cambridge. Since I like to live car-free, I'm thinking that california in general may not be the place for me, but I can dream. And there are always motorcycles.
i still need to hear the scoop on your trip, though now i guess i'll have to wait until you get back from ericka's wedding. but I MISS YOU. so there. :**
it's unclear to me whether gender or science/society would be better. probably gender. i know what my project will focus on, so i'll probably just go with whichever concentration gives me the best resources for that.
we should make an im/chat date sometime about what you're doing. i have all these thoughts of late, and am starting to feel a history of sexuality/sexuality studies project creeping into my brain. i'm so psyched for you!
